Telefnica O2 and Huawei Expanding 3G Network Coverage

[Prague, Czech, 28 October 2008] Telefnica O2 Czech Republic has taken a significant step towards carrying out its announced expansion of 3G network coverage, based on UMTS/HSDPA technology. By doing so, the operator is continuing in its strategy of expanding high-speed mobile data services in the Czech Republic an area in which it is the leader. Following a tender, Telefnica O2 has chosen Huawei as the provider of the UMTS network infrastructure and modernization of its 2G network and signed up the contract at the end of September.

"Telefnica O2 Czech Republic has always been the leader in high speed data services," says Salvador Anglada, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Telefnica O2 Czech Republic, adding "Now we want to provide the benefits of high speed mobile internet to the most Czech cities. Therefore, we decided to expand our 3G network and modernize our 2G network. To accomplish these tasks, we selected Huawei, one of the most prominent suppliers of mobile network products. We selected them for their experience and quality, as well as for the technical maturity of the technologies they provide."

"We truly appreciate the opportunity to begin cooperating with Telefnica O2 on expanding their network coverage. We are pleased that our offer was successful and that we can thus contribute to essential developments in mobile data technologies," said Xiaoming Tang, President of Telefnica Key Account Department, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.

Telefnica O2 is currently the only Czech operator providing 3G network coverage based on UMTS/HSDPA technology in Prague and Brno. Users in these cities can enjoy higher transmissions of up to 3.6 Mbit/s at the beginning of next year. By the end of 2009, the operator is planning to expand the signal to 20 to 30 towns in the Czech Republic. Over the next two to three years, coverage will expand to around 70% of the Czech population.

By the end of 2010, considerable modernization of the 2G network will be carried out in cooperation with Huawei. Through EDGE technology, this network will increase speeds in the entire GSM network to 150-200kbit/s.

In 2004, Telefnica O2 Czech Republic became the first operator in the Czech Republic to introduce high-speed mobile data services based on CDMA 450 technology, the first to launch internationally compatible high-speed mobile data services based on UMTS technology, and was one of the first ten global operators to start offering HSDPA technology commercially.

In the first phase, technology for third-generation mobile networks enable data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbit/s. Within the next few years, it will be possible to increase transfer speeds to up to 7.2 Mbit/s. With UMTS/HSDPA technology, users will thus be able to connect to the Internet and browse web pages, send and receive emails, and stream much faster than they can in other networks.

LG KC910; Worlds first 8 Megapixel touchscreen phone in stock now!

The LG KC910 has launched in the UK and is now in stock at Mobiles.co.uk! Following hot on the heels of the Samsung i8510 and Sony Ericsson C905, LG’s first entrant into the dizzying heights of the 8 Megapixel camera phone world comes with the title of the worlds first 8 Megapixel touchscreen phone. Well you didn’t expect LG to let its rivals hog all the limelight did you? The LG KC910, unofficially billed as the successor to the massively popular LG Viewty, is now available on Orange, O2 and T-Mobile with a range of tariffs to suit every ones needs. But if you can’t remember why you should be so excited about this new multimedia monster from LG, read on for a quick recap

The LG KC910, as mentioned above (and pretty much everywhere by LG), is the worlds first fully touchscreen mobile phone to feature an 8.0 Megapixel camera. The camera itself boasts top of the range features such as face tracking, smile and blink detection, autofocus, a powerful Xenon flash and an impressive Schneider Kreuznach lens. And in keeping with the Viewty tradition, the KC910 (also known as the Renoir) supports both fast and slow motion video capture. So if you’re starting to like the sound of the KC910 just because of the camera, wait till you hear what else LG have managed to pack in; HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, built in GPS, support for the usual range of multi media formats such as MP3 and AAC plus, more excitingly, DivX and Xvid for high resolution video playback complimented nicely by Dolby mobile sound technology for a crisp audio experience! Phew, nearly ran out of breath! And all this packed in to a phone just 13.5mm thick!

It’s hard to think of anything the LG KC910 is missing (seriously, can anyone think of anything?) but the most important feature of all is that the KC910 has launched and is now in stock! Click here to take a look at the available tariffs.

Resistance 2 Co-Op Gameplay

In Resistance 2's co-op mode, "you'll discover that the objectives will dynamically change as well, making each situation play out in a different manner every time." Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

For example, if you find yourself playing a split-screen co-op game with one friend, fights will be easier to take on than if you move in with seven other players and are surrounded by sixty enemies or more at the same point.

New Microsoft Windows

New Microsoft Windows

Early reviewers report that the new Microsoft Windows 7 "feels like a fast, stable environment -- Windows boss Steve Sinofsky confirmed that it could run on systems with just 1GB of RAM." Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

It is interesting to note, though, that while the Win 7 boots way faster here (even with the other computer's BIOS startup out of the way), it actually takes longer than the other system to shut down. But yes, these are totally unscientific.
