Blackberry jump on the App Store bandwagon!

If imitation is a form of flattery then the Apple App store must be one of the most coveted inventions since man first sliced bread. Following in the foot steps of the Android market, Samsung, Nokia and Microsoft, Blackberry have now announced their own homage to the Apple App store, but will it provide any true innovation or just act as a ‘me too’ to the popular iPhone application hub?

Titled Blackberry App World, the store promises to provide a one stop location for all your application needs for the Blackberry in your life. Personalise your BlackBerry smartphone with games, social networks, personal productivity tools and much more. Message your friends, track the stock market or download music on the go. It seems the Blackberry App World should cater for all your app needs. What’s more, Blackberry are currently looking for budding developers to submit applications to be featured on Blackberry App World so if you have a knack for development and an eye for innovation, head on over to the Blackberry site.

Set to launch in Q2 of 2009, how will Blackberry App World shape up against the mighty iPhone and the App store? At present the Blackberry site states that Apps can only be purchased using a PayPal account rather than being added to your bill ala’ the iPhone, so could this prove a stumbling block?
