Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte: Style does have its price

Last week at Mobiles.co.uk, we received a stylish little present in the form of the new Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte. Carbon fibre, Titanium, Stainless steel and polished glass have been crafted to compose this solid & strong slider handset, the third in the series of 8800s which also boast the Nokia 8800 Arte and the Sapphire Arte. Motivated by architecture, aerospace and sports cars, the first class minded engineers of Nokia have used these materials to reflect a modern feel through the unique tones, textures and sculpted shapes that carbon fibre and titanium deliver. This magnificent slide opening 3G phone comes with a two Inch screen which has a 320 pixel by 240 pixel screen resolution and displays up to sixteen million colours on the OLED screen.

On first impression it has to be said that the Nokia 8800 Carbon, which has proven consistent with its seamless surface and substantial weight is an amazing feet of engineering, whose build quality is second to none. I literally sat and slid the phone open and closed a good few times in sheer amazement at its smooth movement and airtight closed state, it almost feels unbreakable. Functionality wise it has also succeeded its predecessors with an upgraded 4GB Flash memory and a vastly improved resistance to finger prints. Another advantage is that when the casing is closed, hiding the keypad, you can still use the phone with the navigation key & call keys however this does mean that you will have to remember to lock the phone every time you put it in your pocket.

An impressive feature adopted from the previous Arte is the turn-to-mute silencing mechanism which lets you silence incoming calls by turning the mobile phone over on to its face. Nokia also include this feature in the upcoming Nokia 6600 Slide which benefits from a similarly luxurious design and build quality, though you can expect that to be far more reasonable in terms of price!

Another couple of features adopted by the Carbon Arte are organic wallpapers that transform throughout the day and the unique tap for time feature whereby you simply give the screen a quick double tap and a big clock appears to let you know the time, both of which combine into an improved striking OLED display. A microUSB connecter, Bluetooth 2.0, WAP, MP3 player and 3.2 megapixel camera complete the feature list.

Now as you can maybe tell from my extensive look into the build of the Arte that the features although unique in some areas are actually quite limited in comparison to maybe some of the latest handsets such as the N96 or Samsung i8510 however, for people in its target audience this beautiful handset has exactly what it takes to become your most beloved possession. Its a stunning offering that has all the makings of a luxury item, plus its been designed by on of the worlds leading phone makers so you know it has quality throughout. All of this put the Carbon Arte above all other fashion-savvy phones out there and if youre not scared of the extremely high price tag of around 700 then there is really no worthy alternative.
