The Nokia 6210 Navigator is the first Nokia phone to include GPS and an integrated compass to aid with pedestrian guidance. Supporting the new version of Nokia Maps, the Nokia 6210 Navigator includes an option to guide you when you are moving around the city on foot. Combined with the accelerometer which measures changes in direction and orientation, the 6210 Navigator makes it easier to follow a map when out for a stroll, as when you turn the device the map automatically maintains its orientation.
GPS is going to be the big thing in 2008; we had a focus on music phones, with many handsets now offering a music interface that rivals that of the best standalone music players, then there was a big push on integrated cameras, with many handsets now offering picture quality that rivals some standalone digital cameras. Now, with GPS, your mobile phone is now a personal guide wherever you happen to be, allowing you to carry the maps for many countries in the palm of your hand.
As well as having a GPS unit built in, the 6210 Navigator also supports A-GPS. A-GPS works by getting a fix on your location from the mobile network itself, very useful in helping establish a fix on your position in less time.
Although the focus of the Nokia 6210 is on navigation, it doesnt skimp in other areas. The phone runs on the excellent S60 operating system. The S60 OS is very stable, battery friendly, and being an open system, you can add extra features to the handset by addition of third party software. Mobiles.co.uk has its own mobile software shop, selling applications for S60 handsets, which can be found here.
The 6210 is a full 3G capable handset, supporting HSDPA mobile broadband. This allows for the fast transfer and download of data, useful for file downloading from the internet, via the very capable S60 web browser, or for sending/receiving email, via the inbuilt email client.
The Navigator also has a high quality 3.2 megapixel camera, with auto focus and built in flash. Video is recorded at an impressive 15 fps and there is a secondary front facing camera for 3G video calls. Additionally, the 6210 Navigator includes an MP3 player, so you can take your favourite music collection with you and listen to it on the move. There is plenty of storage space for this, with 120MB of internal memory and support for Micro SD memory cards, currently available up to 8GB in size. If your music collection isnt as up to date as you would like, you can tune in to the latest hits via the built in stereo FM radio.
The Nokia 6210 Navigator is due for release in Q3 2008.
